2. Core Test Items and Technical Requirements under EU ERP

Under Regulation (EU) 2019/2020, ERP testing for LED luminaires evaluates multiple key performance indicators:

  • Energy efficiency and luminous efficacy: Non‑directional LED luminaires generally require a luminous efficacy of ≥ 140 lm/W. The Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) must stay below the regulatory maximum limits. Former A++ rated products under the old labelling scheme may only achieve Class E or Class F under the revised A‑G scale.

  • Power‑consumption limits: Stand‑by and networked stand‑by power shall not exceed 0.5 W.

  • Durability and reliability: Products must pass a 3 600‑hour durability test, with luminous‑flux maintenance remaining at minimum 80 % of the initial value upon completion.

  • Optical performance: Colour Rendering Index (CRI) typically ≥ 80 %. Clear power‑factor (PF) limits apply according to rated power (PF ≥ 0.9 for products > 25 W). Strict thresholds govern flicker metrics SVM and PstLM.

  • Sustainability and dismountability: Luminaires shall adopt a two‑tier design separating durable components from consumable parts. LED modules and drivers must be non‑destructively removable to facilitate repair and material recycling.


3. EU ERP Testing Procedure and Lead Time

ERP compliance follows the pathway: third‑party testing + technical documentation + self‑declaration. The workflow is as follows: confirm applicable standards; compile technical files including product specifications, circuit diagrams and Bill of Materials (BOM); submit samples to an accredited laboratory for full‑scope testing. After passing tests, manufacturers compile full technical documentation and issue an EU Declaration of Conformity (DoC). Product data must then be registered in the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL). This registration step must be completed by an EU‑based authorised representative or importer and normally takes 3‑5 working days.

With well‑performing samples and complete documentation, laboratory testing and report generation generally take 7‑15 working days. Including EPREL registration, the overall timeline is approximately 2‑3 weeks. Complex products with smart control functions may require extended lead times.
