1、 Standard Overview
GB/T 41265-2022 "Safety Requirements for Optical Radiation of Wearable Devices" was jointly released by the State Administration for Market Regulation
and the National Standardization Administration on March 9, 2022, and officially implemented on October 1, 2022. This standard fills the gap in the field
of optical radiation safety for wearable devices in China, providing a unified technical basis for the design, production, and testing of smart watches and
other products.
2、 Scope of application
This standard is applicable to wearable devices that emit incoherent light with wavelengths ranging from 200nm to 3000nm, and smart watches (including
heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring LED light sources) are typical applicable products. However, it should be noted that the standard does not apply
to devices used by children under 2 years old and people with sensitive skin to light (such as open wounds).
3、 Supporting measurement standards
The detection method is based on GB/T 42750-2023 "Measurement Methods for Optical Radiation Safety of Wearable Devices" and forms a
complementary system with GB/T 41265-2022, jointly forming a complete detection specification.
4、 Core testing items
Optical radiation intensity test
Using a spectrometer or radiometer, measure the irradiance or radiance emitted by the device under different working modes and brightness settings
at simulated skin or eye contact distance, ensuring that it does not exceed the achievable emission limit specified by the standard. This is a key item
in evaluating whether the device will cause direct harm to the user's eyes.
Spectral distribution test
Scan the entire wavelength range of 200nm to 3000nm using a spectral analyzer to analyze the energy distribution of ultraviolet, visible, and infrared
light. Even if the content of ultraviolet light is small, it may cause cumulative damage to the skin due to long-term exposure and needs to be monitored
closely.
Flashing and flicker test
Detect the flicker frequency of smartwatches with display screens at different refresh rates and brightness levels. Excessive flicker may cause visual
fatigue or trigger migraines, and precise measurements should be made using a flicker frequency meter.
Continuous exposure testing
Simulate the scenario of users wearing the device for a long time, continuously run and monitor the stability of the device's light radiation after
several hours of operation, and examine whether there is a risk of radiation intensity drift or intermittent exceeding the standard.
5、 Classification of hazard levels
Based on actual test data, the product is classified as non hazardous (exempted) or as Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 hazardous. If all indicators do not
exceed the achievable emission limit specified in GB/T 41265, it is judged as qualified.
6、 Risk control and identification requirements
The standard also requires a review of risk control measures to ensure that the instruction manual and labeling information meet the requirements,
reminding users how to use the equipment safely, including warning content such as avoiding direct eye contact and time limits for use.
